Hartford Flat-Top Highboy
maple, 68"h, 37"w, 21"d

A very fragile original appeared at auction years ago and went to a private home, but it was so delicate and refined it deserved to be replicated. The original had a history of ownership in the Hartford area, but the straight cabriole legs and apron shape indicate a probable Massachusetts origin. The beaded drawer surrounds and proportions show it to be an early example made just after the William and Mary period. The pulls and escutcheons are hand chased and of the early Queen Anne-era style.

The drawers and upper case are dovetailed and the base is of pegged mortise-and-tenon construction. It is shown here with an ebonized finish, as was the original, but it is available in other traditional finishes as well.
