Philadelphia Chippendale Arm Chair mahogany, 41"h The arm chair version of the previous Philadelphia side chair adds a bit more to the width and height and includes arms that are in themselves works of sculpture. The arm supports are of a cabriole shape, gently rounded on the back side and scooped on the inside. They blend smoothly into serpentine arms that taper over their length and end in carved volutes. Other wise the chair is identical in construction and detail to the previous side chair, with Philadelphia-style ball and claw feet, extensive foliate carving on the knees, carved scallop shells on the seat and crest rails, and a pierced splat and crest ears with carved volutes. |
