Connecticut Chapin Side Chair
cherry, 40"h

Eliphalet Chapin (b. 1741) learned the cabinetmaking trade in Philadelphia and brought his skills back to the East Windsor area of Connecticut. His work blended Philadelphia proportions and construction with the more restrained tastes of his Connecticut clientele.

This side chair features the strong but compact ball and claw feet and crest rail shell indicative of the Chapin school. The handsomely shaped splat and the crest ears are detailed with carved volutes.
